Bertie Allen, a resident of Joppa for the past 40 years, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Allen was born April 6, 1933 in Talladega, the daughter of Fred L. Ford and Locra Denny Ford, she was the eldest of eight children. She married Billy Joe Allen in March 1950 and was married for 65 years at the time of his passing May, 8, 2015, they had four beautiful children: Janice, Ronnie, Randy and Glen Curtis. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker, known for her amazing cooking skills, playing host to her large family and enjoyed watching soap operas. The greatest joys of her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by a daughter: Janice Taylor (Bernard) of Arab; sons: Ronnie Joe Allen of Joppa, Randy Gene Allen of Florida and Glenn Curtis Allen (Lisa) of Joppa; grandchildren: Joseph, Bree, Janessa, Rodney, Lisa, Christa, Jonathan, Leslie, Tamara, Jason, Logan and Cayla; sixteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, the greatest joy was being “Mammaw” to all of them; sister: Ruby Nell Sanford of Bogata, Texas; brothers: Willard Ford of Polk City, Florida, Leonard Ford (Billie) of Cunningham, Texas and Joe David Ford (Cindy) of Silver Hill, Alabama; sister-in-law: Shirley Ford of Arab; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded by her husband: Billy Joe Allen, sister: Kathleen Ford, brothers: Jerry L. Ford and Larry Ray Ford, daughter-in-law: Delores Whitaker and sister-in-law: Ethel Ford.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Gober Funeral Chapel. The burial will be in Antioch Cemetery at Oneonta. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Gober Funeral Chapel.
