Bernice Marie Phillips, of Cullman, Alabama, was received into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on September 28, 2023, at the age of 66. Bernice was born to J.B. and Genell Maynard Mobley on November 5, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed quilting, sewing, and cooking. She loved tending her flowers and doing yard work as well. She was a hard worker, and Bernice worked in various fields of employment for many years. Bernice was a child of God and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family. Mrs. Phillips was a very kindhearted woman, and she extended the love of Christ to those around her. She never had a harsh or unkind word for other people. Her love for her family was evident. Bernice cherished her husband of fifty-one years, Odell, and enjoyed the banter and teasing they shared. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she treated her daughter-in-laws and son-in-laws like her own children. Mrs. Bernice was treasured by her family, and they will miss her and the love she so feely gave to them greatly.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, C.B. Mobley and Hubert Mobley; and her mother-in-law who became a second mother to her, Marie Phillips.
Those surviving Mrs. Phillips include her beloved husband, Odell Phillips; sons, Junior Dale Phillips (Renee), JM Phillips; daughters, Tina Widner (Joey), Amy Plunkett (John), Rhonda Phillips; brother, James Mobley (Doris); thirteen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation beginning at noon on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips will follow visitation, beginning at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jim Butts officiating. Bernice will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery where Patrick Phillips, Kenneth Langley, Dylan Phillips, Tommy Boatwright, John Plunkett, Joey Widner, Ammie Entrekin, and Mason Gilmore will serve as pallbearers.
Holly Pond Funeral Home is honored to care for the Phillips family.
