Bernice Denson – Obituary

Bernice Denson, 93 of Addison, entered into rest on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Denson was born on August 11, 1921 in Wilcox County. She graduated from the Pine Hill High School in Wilcox County and was one of the first graduates as a Registered Nurse from the nursing program at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham. She was a Registered Nurse for 70 years, faithfully practicing for over 60 years. She worked as Supervisor of Kelly Nursing Home in Haleyville, as an Industrial Nurse at Winston Homes, numerous hospitals, and with Winston County Home Health in her later years. She administered various types of injections from her home and she became known to many around the community as the “Dr. Blake” of Addison. Mrs. Denson was a member of the Church of God and attended the Addison Church of God for 50 years, many of which she served as Sunday School teacher. She loved and enjoyed all her family, but especially enjoyed being with her two daughters.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1-3pm at Addison Church of God, where services will be held at 3pm. Pastor Rodney Ridgeway and Bishop Samuel Parker will officiate. Burial will be in Nesmith Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Denson is survived by her daughters, Patsy Wilson, Sue Denson; and sister, Winnie Gunter. She was “MoMo” Denson to three grandchildren: Wendy Thompson, Jimmy (Adrienne) Wilson, Tiffany (Matt) Wehby; and 5 great grandchildren, Jessica Roberts, Trace Thompson, Jake Wilson, Jack Wilson, Joey Wilson, Lilly Wehby and Lola Wehby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Owel Denson.
