Berkely Leigh Webb – Obituary

Reverend Berkely Leigh Webb, 80, of Sheffield, passed away at his residence.

He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in May of 1953. He was a graduate of Howard College-Samford University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Reverend Webb held pastorates in both Indiana and Alabama, serving 60 years in ministry. He began his ministry in Montgomery, Ala. at Woodley Road Baptist Church. He served as pastor of Camden Baptist Church in Camden, Ala. He was pastor of First Baptist Church of Sheffield from 1970-1979 and Lakewood Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala. from 1979-1996. Brother Berkely retired from full time pastorate in 1996. Upon retirement, he served as interim pastor at Tuscumbia First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, Ala.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, May 15, from noon until 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sheffield. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Reverend Chad Holder officiating. Interment services will be held Thursday, at 2 p.m., at Emmaus Cemetery, Luverne, Ala.

Berkely was a native of Crenshaw County and was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lola Mae Webb. Survivors include his wife, Joan Bethea Webb; daughter Beth Owen (Turner); son, Dwight Webb (Michelle); granddaughters, Jennifer Owen Oliva (Michael) and Camden Owen; grandson, Turner Grey Owen Jr.; and great-grandson, Michael Oliva Jr.
