Basil Eugene Ray of Selmer, TN was born September 21, 1934 in Selmer, the son of the late John Basil Ray and Florence Margaret Daniels Ray. He was united in marriage to Lottie Mae Head on May 14, 1957. Mr. Ray was a retired Construction Worker. He previously worked for the Tennessee Forestry Service.
Mr. Ray was a member of Eastside church of Christ in Selmer. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Mr. Ray departed this life on April 24, 2018 in Corinth, MS at the age of 83 Years, 7 Months, 3 Days.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Lottie Mae Ray of Selmer, TN; three daughters, Bob and Diane Ray Taylor of Pocahontas, TN, Gary and Kathy Jean Essary of Corinth, MS, Randy and Jennifer Ray Smith of Pocahontas; two sons, Tony and Trish Ray of Pocahontas, Keena and Vicki Ray of Corinth; 12 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Thomas, Sue McIntyre, Jo Ray; two brothers, Paul Wayne Ray, Johnny Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Cody Ray and a brother, Leonard “Skip” Davis.
