Bart Maddox age 65, born in Leeds, AL currently of Sipsey was welcomed to his eternal home on Monday September 9th, 2024. Bart lived a life of great accomplishment giving of himself in so many ways. A few of Bart’s many accomplishments and service include: Thirty Two years as an iron worker in the field and 12 years serving as business manager for Local 92 Iron workers union. Bart was a beloved volunteer coach at Dora High School for 39 years and himself was a member of Samford University’s 1984 hall of fame football team. He was also recognized as a member of the AFL-CIO Hall of Fame & Union Sportsman’s Alliance 2021 Volunteer of the year. Bart has been a member of Sumiton Church of God for 36 years where he enjoyed many of those singing as a member of the choir and serving in various other capacites. Bart’s selflessness in life is expressed so well in the impact he’s had on the lives of so many people, especially young men through the avenue of his job and football. Bart is survived by his wife of 36 years and love of his life Shelia, Sister in-laws: Freda Owens, Gail Wingo (Tony), Deb Maddox. Nephews: Ryan Wingo (Lindsey), Blake Wingo (Kassidy), Will Maddox (Carrie), & Brittney Wilson (Josh). Great Nieces and Nephews: Kyla, Brey, Bella, Kloe, Ivey, Jordan, Ruthie, Charlie, Brooklyn, Kennedy, Henry & Wes He is preceded in death by his Father: Ray Maddox, Mother: Geraldine Maddox, Brother: Mike Maddox, Niece: Pam Jett (Junior) & Nephew: Kevin Owens.
Funeral services will be Thursday Sept. 12, 24 at 2:00 pm at Sumiton Church of God. Pastor Harv Turner and Rev. Lane Sargent will officiate. Burial will follow at Pisgah Baptist Cemetery in Sipsey. Visitation is Thursday 12-2 pm at the church.
