Barbara Ruth Williams

February 26, 1938 – October 12, 2024

Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Claremont Retirement Village in

Columbus, Ohio. She died of complications from heart disease.

She was the daughter of Earl Sr. and Mildred (Cox) Biegert. She is survived by her daughter, Julia Teresa Greenlee, grandchildren Leanna Greenlee, McKinna Greenlee and Noah Colemire.

She graduated from Heidelberg college in Tiffin, Ohio with a BA in education. During that time, she spent a year studying abroad at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She has taught primary school and eventually worked with international students and taught them English as a second language. She used her education experience and love of classical music to teach piano lessons as well.

One of her most fulfilling jobs dear to her heart was teaching conservation. Anyone who knew her remembers that she put people over profit and built a community while keeping things simple as a way to take care of mother earth and have a meaningful life. She was a driving force in the Simply Living organization and was a loyal, dedicated volunteer. Barbara had a truly peaceful soul and was committed to being a positive presence, generous of spirit and always walked her talk.

These principles were put in practice among her numerous housemates living at 1137 Pennsylvania Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. She always gave people the benefit of the doubt and readily shared–her house, her time, her table

It takes a very special person to share your home with others. She modeled hospitality and embraced everyone, whether they were living with her or visiting to participate in one of her special activities that everyone looked forward to like the annual Chocolate Party or famous Soup Night.

A celebration of life will be at a later date.
