Barbara Massey Profile Photo It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Massey “Memaw”, who peacefully departed this life on February 10, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. Born on October 20, 1935, to the late Buford Thomas Allen and Velma Allen in Lexington, Alabama, Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness.

Barbara was a beacon of kindness, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her unwavering devotion to her family knew no bounds, and she ensured that they were always cared for. She possessed a servant’s heart, embodying qualities of empathy, generosity, beauty, and grace. In her faith, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant since 1955.  Barbara’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family; she touched the lives of many as a cherished friend, sister, neighbor, and mother figure.

A woman of many talents, Barbara was an exceptional cook,  tennis player and a skilled smocker and seamstress. She generously shared her expertise, patiently teaching others the art of smocking. Her gentle demeanor and attentive ear made her a beloved confidante and a pillar of strength for those in need. Her love of helping others transferred over to being a ICU Nurse for over 20 years at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Above all, Barbara cherished her role as “Memaw” to her grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from nurturing and guiding them, instilling in them values of love, integrity, and faith. Her dedication to raising her grandchildren exemplified her unwavering commitment to family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Turner; the grandchildren she raised as her own: Matthew (Meghan) Massey, Sabrina (Chad) Mills, and Jasmine Turner; grandchildren: Ashley, Eric, Megan, and Darla; great-grandchildren: Logan, Macie, Harrison, Sophie, Scarlett, Grayson, Gunner, Tayvon, Grier, Wynter, and Linlee; great-great-grandson: Ja’Kobi; brother: Ralph (Judy) Allen;sister: Doris Gardner; several nieces and nephews; and her cherished pet companion: Annie.

She is preceded in death by her husband of many years, Joe Massey; children, Jeri Lamb and Phillip Massey; two grandsons, Larry Dee Turner and Isaiah Crowe; as well as her parents, siblings, and grandparents.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. The funeral service for Barbara will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, with Frank Webb officiating.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Massey, Eric Massey, Chad Mills, Kevonta Cathey, and Johnny Allen. Honorary Pallbearers will be the TNR Group at Connection Church.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
