Barbara Lucille Laxson Pope, 86 of Athens, passed away on Monday, August 19th, 2024, at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mrs. Pope was born on February 1st, 1938, in Athens, to Ephraim Laxson and Ruth Lucille Pepper Laxson.
Mrs. Pope is survived by her daughters Ruth Ann Burke (Eric), of Anderson, and Sarah Pope Nelson (David), of Gorham, Maine; granddaughters Bailee Pope (Luke), of Ardmore, and Michelle Shearon, of Athens; great-granddaughters Saylor Haney, Gracie Bates (Jessie), and Rachel Burnett (Jay); 2 great-great-granddaughters; 1 great-great-grandson; sister Nancy Abernathy; several nieces and nephews; and beloved cat Tom.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Pope; son Mark Pope; granddaughter Brittney Haney; 3 sisters; and 1 brother.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pope will be Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Buc Chumbley and Everett Conn officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00-1:50pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairview Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Nelson, Eric Burke, Stephen Haney, Luke Ferguson, Jerald Abernathy, and Shane White.
Mrs. Pope was a member of Capshaw Church of Christ. She enjoyed selling Avon for 40+ years. She also enjoyed baking, word searches, and sitting on her front porch with her cat Tom.
