Barbara King McDowell, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Ross Glenn Tabor and Mary Kate Kirby, her husband Bill McDowell, and her son David Tabor King.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and wife. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, more than anything and modeled Him in her love, kindness, patience, generosity, and loyalty. Her legacy to her family is the wonderful example of a Godly, humble woman she lived out on a daily basis.
Barbara worked as judicial assistant for 30 years at the District Court for three different judges and daily enjoyed her work at DeKalb County Courthouse in Fort Payne, Alabama.
After retirement, Barbara moved to Birmingham to be closer to her children and enjoyed an active lifestyle of traveling, shopping and family adventures with the love of her life, her husband, Bill.
Barbara is a member of North Shelby Baptist Church in Birmingham.
She is survived by her beloved children: Bruce (Patti) King, Melanie (Johnny) McDowell, Carol (Ron) Beckham, and Melinda McDowell Calderini; her much adored grandchildren Meg (Nick) Atkinson, Ross (Meaghan) Beckham, Mary Katherine Calderini, Brandi Beckham (Travis Sisk), and Kevin Beckham; her precious great-grandchildren Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Ray, Allie (Robert) Horst, and Trevor (Bailey) Sisk.
The family will have a private service interment at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or your favorite charity.
