Funeral service for Barbara Jester Laney, age 79, of Cullman is Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Cullman Funeral Home chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Steve Rodgers, obituary reading by Ty Watwood, opening prayer by Lee Wallace, and closing prayer by John Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery.

Mrs. Laney was born November 4, 1944, to Clarence Gilbert Jester and Obera Evon Chandler Jester. She passed from this life on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Princeton Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jimmy R. Laney, brother, Wayne Jester; grandson, Denzel Mattox; brother-in-law, Ancil Wallace.
She is survived by her sons, Dumont Laney, and Ronald Laney (Linda); daughters, Janola Mitchell (John), Cloressia Mattox, Allyson Brown (Chris); brother, Wade Jester (Gina); sisters, Betty Wallace, and Freda Duskin (Terry); seven grandchildren, Justin Mitchell (Rachel), Brett Mitchell (Katie), Ethan Mitchell (Kami), Nathan Haynes (Mary), Kaitlyn Owens (Micah), Conner Sapp, Adeline Brown; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Barbara is well known by many in this community through her banking career at Compass Bank, then later at Regions Bank. She loved being active in her hobbies after retirement, spending her time doing meticulous needle work, puzzles, and playing cards with her friends. She was also a longtime member and officer of Cullman Bowling League. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she will always be remembered as such.
