Barbara Jean Patterson Roland was born on Jan. 10, 1938, in Dennis, Mississippi the daughter of the late Harlyn Patterson and Lola Claunch Patterson. She was united in marriage twice (Robert Boyd Baker and Donald Ray Roland) and leaves behind two children, R. Steven Baker (Laura Mizzell Baker), Hoover, Alabama, and Belinda Roland Taylor (Allen Taylor), Valencia, California, and four grandchildren, Zach Baker, Los Feliz, California, Savannah Baker, Hoover, Alabama, Kelsey Taylor, Valencia, California, and Jeffrey Taylor, Valencia, California.
Mrs. Roland lived in the Tri-Cities most of her life and moved to Hoover, Alabama in 2012. She loved the Lord and considered herself Baptist. She had an endearing way of helping those in need and made a difference in the lives she had the pleasure of meeting. She never met a stranger and will be deeply missed.
Barbara Jean Patterson Roland departed this life on Dec. 2, 2016, at Grandview Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, after a brief illness.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Billie Sue Patterson Crabb, of Longview, Washington.
A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 7, 2017, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2870 Acton Rd., Birmingham, AL 35243, at 2 p.m.
