Barbara Jean Carnes McDowell, 81, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Southern Magnolia, Golden, MS. She was born in Alabama to Uel and Inez Brooks Carnes. She was a secretary at Tiffin Motor Homes for forty-one years and a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay, AL.

Services will be Friday, September 29, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Bill Harper officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, AL. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her children – Linda Anderson (Dean) of Vina, AL, Lisa Moses (Garry), Cherokee, AL and Larry McDowell, Golden, MS; daughter-in-law – Maylene McDowell, Golden, MS; ten grandchildren – Christy Ward (Blake) Boston, MA, Ramona Greene (Jock) Dennis, MS, Billy McDowell (Lauren) Russellville, AL, Shantelle Scott (Jake) Muscle Shoals, AL, Mac Sparks, Red Bay, AL, Brandon McDowell, Alex Moses (Aundrea) Mount Hope, AL, Brett McDowell (Jenny Ann) Belmont, MS, Trent Moses, Hailey McDowell, Belmont, MS; nineteen great-grandchildren – Maverick Ward, Kate, Kamden, Karson and Klaire Greene, Sarah, Jake Jr., and Madison Scott, Isabella, Liam, Nicole, Jaxon, Phinley and Kollier McDowell, Justin, Zachary and Christopher Sparks and Loxley and Everlie Moses; sisters – Elois Crowder, Red Bay, AL., Carolyn Thorn, Vina, AL, Janie Bjork (Rick) Muscle Shoals, AL, Charolette Funderburk (Oneal) Golden, MS and Brenda Purser, Red Bay, AL; sisters-in-law – Betty Boyd, Red Bay, AL and Jeneen Carnes, Beaver Dam, WI and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy Ray McDowell, a son, Michael McDowell, a grandson, Bradley Ray McDowell, two brothers, Euel Carnes and John Carnes, a niece, Heather Purser and a brother-in-law, Ray Crowder.

Pallbearers will be Trent Moses, Billy McDowell, Brandon McDowell, Alex Moses, Brett McDowell and Mac Sparks.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 5-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL and she will lie in state Friday, September 29, 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Red Bay, AL.
