Barbara Herrington, 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2024. She was born in Excel, Alabama, on March 29, 1933, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Cohren. She was the youngest of 8 children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Barbara was married to Forest Douglas Herrington for 55 years until he passed 15 years ago. They had 2 children, Dr. Forest Stephen Herrington (Kelly), and Anne Herrington (Tommy), both of Huntsville. She also left behind 4 adoring grandchildren, Caroline Herrington Kimminau, Alexandria Darnell, Hannah Darnell Coleman and Adams Herrington and 2 beautiful great granddaughters, Annabelle and Lizzie.

Barbara graduated from University of Montevallo and earned her master’s degree from the University of Alabama. She worked for the Dean of the Law School while Forest began his legal career.

Barbara led a very active life, both personally and professionally, enjoying many activities. She was an avid tennis player for many years, but really enjoyed her love for writing. She was a member of The Garden Club, an active member of First Baptist Church, and loved planning parties and entertaining friends and family. In Barbara’s later years, she loved hosting parties for the ladies in her Sunday school class. She was very passionate about her family and getting everyone together over a fabulous meal. That love and the memories made will be with us always.

Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The service will follow at 1:00pm with Judge William Bell officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Donny Stringfellow, Tommy Darnell, Jared Kimminau, Turner Coleman, Tyler Corning, and Adams Herrington.

We would like to offer our sincere appreciation to Joyce and Donny Stringfellow for all their selfless love and care for Barbara over the years which allowed her to be active and very independent.
