Barbara Ella (Foust) Crumbley, 85, of Huntsville, AL passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Barbara was born in Blountsville, AL on March 22, 1937. She graduated from J.B. Pennington High School in 1955, where she was a member of the Tigers cheerleading team. She then earned her B.S. in Education from The University of Alabama in 1959. Barbara was a servant of the Lord, a loving mother, a fantastic homemaker, and a true friend.
Barbara was a charter member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she served on the original Building Committee, enjoyed keeping the nursery and taught many children during Sunday and Vacation Bible School. She loved hosting neighbors for coffee and the church family for the “Tomato Sandwich” socials.
Her favorite activities were traveling, gardening, needlepoint, camping, and watching the Tide roll on Saturdays. Barbara was known for her friendliness and southern hospitality. The family meals were often enhanced by surprise guests including distant relatives, new church visitors or lonely neighbors.
Barbara was a member of the Red Cross, receiving a Sustained Service Award for 25 years of dedicated service for the Madison/Marshall County Chapter. She was a weekly fixture at the information desk at Huntsville Hospital for over 25 years until they “updated” the computer system. Barbara was a regularly approved member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution with the Samuel Sorrell Chapter.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Mattie Lee Foust, sister, Vivian Foust, and brother, W.C. Foust. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 63 years and high school sweetheart, Robert; children, Melissa Jane Crumbley of Huntsville, Robert Timothy Crumbley (Ashlyn) of Madison, AL, Jennifer Ann McWilliams (Jeff) of Birmingham, AL, and Daniel Foust Crumbley (Sophia) of Lakewood, CO. Barbara loved her six grandchildren, Annie and Mae Crumbley, Isabella Davis, Jordie and Tyler McWilliams, and Hannah Fryer who she was the loving guardian of for 17 years; her sister, LaDora Jernigan of Houston; her brothers, Boyce Foust and Tommy Foust of Blountsville and Garry Foust of Ft. Pierce, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, March 9th at Sherwood Baptist Church with the funeral immediately following. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Blountsville Cemetery in Blountsville, AL.
