Barbara Baltz Vought, 83, passed away peacefully on April 10th after a long journey with Alzheimer’s.
Barbara was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on July 9,1936. After graduating from Siena College in Memphis, Barbara met her husband Carl Vought when he was stationed close to her hometown. They were married in 1962 and moved to Huntsville later that year. Mrs. Vought taught at Randolph School for 22 years and was a longtime head of the upper school science department and student government advisor until her retirement in1998. Barbara was active in the Women’s Guild of the Huntsville Museum of Art and loved the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, an avid world traveler and an excellent grandmother.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Carl. She is survived by her children, Vivian Vought Terry (Kelvin) of Birmingham, Lee Vought (Rachel) of Decatur, and Stephanie Vought Ortel (Jeff) of Hampton Cove; grandchildren, Hollen Terry, Madden Terry, Christopher Vought, Laura Leigh Vought, Emily Ann Vought, Ashley Ortel and Courtney Ortel. Barbara is survived also by her sisters, Betty Baltz Hickman of Springfied, Illinois, Marian Baltz Sassenrath of Lenexa, Kansas; and her brothers, George H. Baltz, Jr. (Vicky) of Acworth, GA and Tim Baltz of Owasso, Oklahoma.
A memorial mass and celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Randolph School (1005 Drake Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35802) or the Huntsville Museum of Art (300 Church Street, Huntsville, AL 35801).
