Barbara Ann Smith Powers, age 70 of Athens, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Huntsville Hospital. Barbara was born December 18, 1948 in Wyndotte, MI to Ernest H. Smith and Viola Fancher Smith.
Graveside Services for Barbara are Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Pleasant Point Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with Tom Pepper officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 7, 2019 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Powers Graham (Jay) and Eydie Powers Owens (Scott); honorary daughter, Melissa Powers Self (Franklin); grandchildren, Cheyanne Owens Adams (Dylan) and Bayle Owens (Kayla); great granddaughter, Kinsley Owens; sisters, Grace Smith Bryngelson, Helen Smith Bullington, Mildred Smith Venable and Gail Smith Simpson; honorary sisters, Robbie Powers (Joe), Lawanda Fox and Linda Brady; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl (Ray) Powers; sisters, Ernestine Smith Nolan and Linda Smith Simpson; brothers, Wilburn S. (Pete) Smith and Carl E. Smith; great grandson, Colton E. Adams; grand puppy, Fox Graham.
On the day that she was born she was one of the best gifts this world had ever got. She made the world a better place and was truly the most selfless person anyone had ever met.
Pallbearers are Doug Owens, Trevor Clark, Austin May, Bayle Owens, Kenneth Fox, Dexter Green, Junior Wayne Coffman and Tim Holland.
