Barbara Ann Proesel Cochran, 76, of Killen, AL, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Visitation will be held at Greenview Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 3 p.m. The funeral will be officiated by Reverend Andy Fogle. Interment of ashes will be at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Cherokee, AL.
Barbara was born on October 14, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter and only child of Robert Stephen and Constance Elizabeth “Betty” Proesel. She graduated from Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois in 1966. She married her husband, Jerrell Wayne Cochran on June 27, 1970, and had her only child, Robert Wayne “Bob” Cochran, on January 6, 1978. She worked for United Airlines for many years, with her job taking her from Chicago to Nashville to Dallas before she settled with Wayne and Bob at Turtle Point in Killen. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, brothers-in-law Earl Cochran, Fred Cochran, and Gene Cochran, sisters-in-law Wilma Austin Cochran, Cathy Cochran, Hope Cochran, and Bernice Cochran Simmons, niece Chantelle Simmons, and nephew Steven Cochran.
Barbara is survived by her son, Bob, brothers-in-law Dale Cochran of Cherokee, Jimmy Cochran of Tupelo, MS, and Dean Simmons of Florence; sister-in-law Catherine Springer of Florence; nieces Katie (Buddy) Brewer of Florence, Jenny (Slade) Gilmer of Florence, Emily (John) Bailey of Tupelo, MS, Janet (Scott) Dickey of Bentonville, AR, Jodie (Wade) Mancell of Muscle Shoals, Ginger (Kevin) Tracz of Riverwoods, IL and Mary Beth (Truman) Jones of Florence, as well as nephews Freddie (Annette) Cochran of Arlington Heights, IL, Nicky Cochran of Tuscumbia, Rickey Springer of Muscle Shoals, and Mark (Melissa) Springer of Asheville, NC.
