Barbara Ann Head Duvall, 76, retired educator for Maury County Schools, and resident of Columbia, died Thursday, June 20, 2024 at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with James Anderson and her son, Jason Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in Hardison Cemetery on Joe Brown Road. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born May 25, 1948 in Gainesboro, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Claude Head and the late Ethel Barnes Head. She was a graduate of Jackson County High School, and received her Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. During her forty-one year career as an educator, she taught at Hampshire, Riverside Elementary, and Spring Hill High School. On December 22, 1972, Barbara married Thomas Doris “Tom” Duvall Jr., sharing over fifty-one years together. Mrs. Duvall was a conscientious educator who loved leading children towards a better life. She was a compassionate caretaker to anyone in need and spread kindness and comfort to all without judgement or prejudice. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Truly, she picked up her cross and followed Him, carrying her burdens with grace and working tirelessly for others. A devoted wife and mother, she self-sacrificed for her children and yours and was a light in every life she touched.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jason Thomas Duvall of Columbia; daughter, Leigh Anne Duvall of Nashville; sisters, Margie (Billy) Jones of Columbia, Phyllis Garland of White House, and Dimple Fitts of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Head; and five infant siblings.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Smith, Mason Smith, James Garland, Jaimie Garland, John Wagner and Doug Ley.
