Award winning documentary to be screened at the Ritz

poster first positionSHEFFIELD-Bess Kargman’s award-winning documentary, FIRST POSITION, will be screened at the Ritz Theatre in Sheffield on Tuesday, February 4th at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students. The film follows the intense training of six young dancers as they prepare to compete at the Youth America Grand Prix, an annual competition for dancers ages 9 – 19. Hundreds of the world’s best young dancers compete for a handful of scholarships and contracts with elite ballet companies. FIRST POSITION is a showcase of awe-inspiring talent, tenacity and passion that paints a thrilling and moving portrait of the most gifted young ballet stars of first positiontomorrow. The film was first-runner-up for Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival where it premiered. It won Best Documentary at the Dallas International Film Festival and Portland International Film Festival where Ms. Kargman won the Best New Director award. First Position is a showcase of awe-inspiring talent, tenacity and passion. A curtain talk by Shawn Ayers will be presented in the Ritz’ Encore Room at 7:00. The talk will provide information and insight about the film’s six-featured dancers and director.
