On October 20, 2023, our hearts were heavy as we said goodbye to a remarkable soul, Avo D. Flatt Hogan. Avo’s journey on this earth began on March 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Alexander and Addie Francis Bean Flatt.
Avo’s marriage to John Ralph Hogan brought immense joy into her life, and although he has preceded her in death, their love will forever remain an inspiration to us all. Avo dedicated many years of her life working in the airplane industry, utilizing her skills in assembly with unwavering precision.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Avo was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ in Iron City, TN. She found purpose in supporting the church’s mission and participating actively in its many endeavors. Furthermore, her compassion extended beyond the church walls as she selflessly gave her time to help raise funds for the Volunteer Iron City Fire Department.
Avo departed this life on October 20, 2023 in Florence, AL at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 9 days. While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable individual, we find solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones who have gone before.
She is survived by nephews, Harold R. Martin (Betty Sue) of Gainesboro, TN, and Keith Ragap of Detroit, MI; great nephew, Chuck Hogan of Iron City, TN; neighbors, Judy and Carl Harper; and friend of 35 years, Iva Dean Bryant.
In addition to her parents and husband, Avo is preceded in death by sisters, Mary Alice Pippin, Vergie Lee Frazo, and Bessie Mae Young; and brother, Harrison Boyd Flatt; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Fairview Church of Christ.
