Avis Ruth Killen McGee – Obituary

Mrs. Avis Ruth Killen McGee, 89, of Florence, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 in the Chapel with Perry Taylor and Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.

 

Mrs. McGee was the daughter of “Dunk” and Susie Killen. The McGees and the Killens settled around Bluewater and have enjoyed the Greehill and Lexington communities and have been a part of Atlas and Shiloh Churches of Christ as well as the Woodlawn Church of Christ which Mrs. McGee was a member of for over 20 years.

 

She had been a receptionist at Killen Motors and later worked at H.D. Lee Co. as a seamstress. She was busy all of her life, taking care of her younger brother Arnold as a child and later painting, crocheting, and being outside in the garden and tending her flowers. She was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband Dewey McGee.

 

Mrs. McGee is survived by a daughter Brenda Kaye Walden and husband Jimmy, of Florence; a son Tim McGee and wife Sandra of Tuscumbia; grandchildren Amy Green and husband David, Drew McGee and wife Laura, Sarah Robinson and husband Cecil, Dedie Parrish and husband Tellie, Deborah Burcham and husband Kirk, Donna Donaldson and husband Jason, Dana Young and husband Kim and Jennifer Parrish; 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; a brother Arnold Killen and wife Lucy of Kansas City, KS; a number of nieces and nephews and other family members.

 

Pallbearers will be Kim Young, Jimmy Walden, Jimmy Stewart, Drew McGee, Cecil Robinson and James Whited.
