Augustin Manuel “Gus” Pacheco of Baileyton, AL passed away Wednesday February 21, 2024, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He had fought a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Gus was born July 19, 1941, in San Pablo, Colorado to Augustin F. and Helen Vigil Pacheco. His family moved to Pueblo, Colorado and he graduated in 1960, from Pueblo Catholic High School and joined the Coast Guard serving six years. He attended college in Pueblo and California. He started a career in the automotive industry owning several service stations and tire stores until his retirement in 2016.
His passion was football and softball, playing until his early 50’s.
Gus is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Julia Taylor Pacheco; sons: Lawrence James, Augustin Robert, Manny Fernando, Donovan John and Edward Richter; daughter: Marina Richter Hodge; 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters; A Memorial Service will be held on March 9, 2024, at 10 AM at Baileyton Methodist Church with Pastor Deborah Moon officiating. There will be a lunch following the service. At a later date, his cremains will be taken to San Luis, Colorado to be interred following a burial service with Military Honors.
Gus was a faithful servant of God and lived a servant’s life. He was a member of Lions Club International and was a member of several clubs from Concord, CA to Dothan, AL. He was a member of Fairview Lions Club. The highest office he held was District Governor of AL Lion’s 34C. He participated in eight ophthalmic mission trips to Mexico.
