Audrey “Tootsie” Carey, 74, of Leighton, AL, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025 in her grand-daughters home in Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025 from 10 to 12 at Colbert Memorial Chapel.
A formidable matriarch with a heart of gold. She was known for her unwavering loyalty, sharp wit, and a presence that commanded respect. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the stories of her family and the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pride Dawson and Grace Campbell Dawson; brothers, Pride “June Bug” Dawson Jr., Pride Louie Dawson II; sisters, Kathy Dawson Goodloe, Rose Scoggin, Betty Fleming, and Mary Gayle Dawson; daughter, Bonnie Carey Massengill; granddaughter, Crystal Carey.
She is survived by her son, William Carey; brothers, Billy Dawson and Joey Dawson (Shelley); sisters, Joyce Ayers (Jerry), Louise Holt, Angela Vandiver (Philip), and Melanie Thompson (Brian); grandchildren, Summer Grace Massengill, Justin Carey (Melissa), Jessica Key (Daemon); great-grandchildren, Bryant, Ava, Aubree, Liam, Bella Rose, Jaelyn Honey, Novalee, Jackson, and Sophia.
