Audie Elliott Mrs Audie Rea Guyton Elliott, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Fayette Long Term Care.

Audie was born June 3, 1935, in Millport, to Haston and Ovell Robertson Guyton of Vernon in the Crossville Community.  She is the widow of Johnnie V. Elliott.  They were married 50 years and resided in the Crossville Community.

Audie attended Crossville and Vernon schools.  She worked at the Vernon garment plant and was a stay at home mom until 1971 when she started her career in the nursing field.  She worked for many years at the Vernon nursing home that later became Generations of Vernon.  She then worked at Fayette Long Term Care until her retirement in 2000.  Audie was an excellent caregiver and received the Employee of Excellence Award.

Audie’s hobbies were crocheting, fishing, working in her flower beds, visiting friends and relatives, attending church, and listening to gospel music.  She gave her heart to God and was baptized at the age of 14, and was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in the Crossville Community.

After being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, Audie lived with her daughter for almost five years.  With the disease slowly taking over her body, she became a resident at Fayette Long Term Care, the very place where she once took care of residents.  It is a blessing that several of her co-workers are still employed there and were familiar to her.

Audie loved having visitors and told everyone she loved them.  Her better days near the end were filled with her singing songs like “When We All Get to Heaven” and “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” which gives her family peace knowing she is with our Lord.  Addie Bently, her best friend since childhood, said that Audie was a treasure, and she will never forget Audie’s kindness to people in need and her determination to do the right thing.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 7, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Bro. Kenneth Stough officiating.  Burial will follow at Liberty Free Will Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Garrett Crosby, Mike Crowe, Marty Gottwald, Jeff Guyton, Tim Yerby, and Kerry Richardson.  Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, cousins, the staff at Fayette Long Term Care, and the staff at Amedisys Hospice.

Audie is survived by her two children, John Clyde Elliott and Angie Elliott Barry, both of Vernon, AL; four granddaughters, Shannon McCain (Dusty) Green of Lexington, MO, Chrystan Barry Gibson of Vernon, AL, Lara Beth Barry (Garrett) Crosby of Vernon, AL, and Kimberly Elliott (Alesha) Howell Prattville, AL; six great-grandchildren, Amelia Green, Lennox Gibson, Sawyer and Sadie Crossby, and Ellie Howell; and sister, Janice (Wayne) Sorrells of Vernon, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to hospice nurse Jamie Robertson, RN, for her love and care.  Also, thank you to Bro. Kenneth Stough and Chandler Funeral Home.
