Mr. Aubrey Nelson, age 90, husband of Linda Nelson, previous owner of Helms Jewelry, and a resident of Windermere Drive in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Norton officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday from 12-2PM at the funeral home. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Maury Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on June 16, 1927 in Nashville, Aubrey was the son of the late Aubrey Nelson, Sr. and the late Lola Mae Hoffman Nelson. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia Business Academy. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Aubrey was an excellent jeweler who owned Helms Jewelry store for fifty years. He married Linda England on November 21, 2009, and together they enjoyed their time spent at the river. Aubrey was a member of the Shriners International and a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his children: Bonnie (Tim) Halstead of Centreville, VA, Debbie (Pat) Greene of Columbia; step-children: Todd (Kerri) Nelson of Dallas, GA, Adam (Victoria) Pye of Smyrna, Lesley (Iasiah) Roberson of Columbia, Michelle Moore of Columbia, Jon (Kim) Sproul of Columbia, David (Vicki) Sproul of Columbia, Beth Sproul Parker of Columbia; grandson: Kenneth Halstead; step-grandchildren: Tori and Gabbi Nelson, Siva and Courtney Pye, Alexis Roberson, Nastacia and Jason Easterling, Jake, Madison, Sydney, Dakota, April, Megan, Nathan, and Rebecca Sproul; a host of nieces and nephews; and his faithful pet: Buttons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Patricia Fite.
