Athletes in Athens clean up

ATHENS-A busload of student athletes from Athens City Schools tackled litter today in the Downtown Athens area.

Athens High Baseball Coach Chuck Smith contacted the Mayor’s Office about a service project for some of the student athletes, so they went out into the heat not to practice, but to pick up messes left by other people who have littered. Several student athletes reported they found some “gross stuff.”
Mayor Ronnie Marks and the Athens City Council thank these student athletes for setting the example that Athens belongs to us all. Littering defaces our city’s beauty, and they took action to clean up some of the mess.

A great example of service before self and another example of what makes this a great city and community ~ Mayor Ronnie Marks

A Big “thank You” to Lowe’s Home Improvement of Athens for donating vests for the project, and Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful for providing additional supplies.
