ATHENS-Members of the Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission today learned about police training for traffic stops and emergency calls, putting on firefighter gear, searching for a victim in a fire, operating a hose and dealing with natural gas leaks and fires.
They learned how officers must continuously train for various encounters, the heaviness of the equipment firefighters carry and the importance of calling 811 before you dig so you don’t hit underground utilities.
This was their last meeting of the school year. These are students in grades 10-12 from Athens High School, Athens Bible School and Lindsay Lane Christian Academy. The goal is for them to learn about local government’s role and their role to be engaged and informed students.
