ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released this statement on the arrest of a suspect on charges of Chemical Endangerment Of A Child on Thursday, October 8:

“On April 7, 2015 Investigator Jonathan Caldwell received a call from a case worker with Limestone County DHR. Caldwell was advised of a new born baby at Athens Limestone Hospital that had tested positive for THC. Caldwell obtained a warrant for Valerie Renea Witchard for chemical endangerment of a child. Witchard was arrested yesterday afternoon when she left DHR. Witchard was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. “

THC? Wasn’t anyone concerned about the goiter from severe iodine deficiency? More likely the baby will be severely brain damaged by this far more than the THC???
