warming stationATHENS-Weather forecasts indicate that the city of Athens will experience the coldest weather felt in 20 years.   Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Sunday evening and stay below the methodist churchfreezing mark until Wednesday.  Low temperatures are expected to reach dangerous levels each night, possibly below zero.  These conditions are particularly dangerous for those who do not have heat and shelter readily available.

Athens 1st United Methodist Church will have the Beasly Center, located on the corner of Bryan St. and Marion St., open as a warming station from 5 pm Sunday night through 8 am Wednesday morning.  We anticipate having food and warm drinks available through cooperation with other mission teams and organizations.  The primary function of this station is to offer a place for folks who are without adequate heat to seek shelter from the elements throughout this upcoming Arctic blast.  Members of the church will be manning the station throughout the time it is open.  All who are in need are welcome.
