ATHENS– Athens State University student, Anuja Manandhar, urges local community members to consider donating to UNICEF to assist the efforts in Nepal after last weekend’s devastating earthquake. Manandhar, a senior from Nepal, spoke with Athens State’s International Student Advisor Laura Allen to give an update on Manandhar’s family situation after the Saturday event.
“My family is ok, they are staying out of the house in the open ground as are all of the Nepalese people,” stated Manandhar. “I’m glad to get contact with them, but a few of my relatives didn’t survive this devastating earthquake.”
Manandhar continues, “We are very sad at this point in time and emotionally and mentally broken down. We worry each and every second after we get the news of an aftershock and I try to get in touch with them every time.”
The Athens State student humbly asks that anyone interesting in assisting do so by contributing to the earthquake relief fund set up at www.unicefusa.org. She states that all of the Nepalese people are trying to raise funds to help the thousands of people who lost family members and to assist those who need help at this critical moment.
Athens State has had a good representation of Nepalese students on campus in the past few years. Currently, there are five students from Nepal taking classes according to the Office of International Students.
