ATHENS – Athens State University is sponsoring two events in celebration of February being named Black History Month. Both events are offered without charge and are open to the public.
On Tuesday, February 24 the Athens State branch of the American Association of University Women will present The 26th Annual African American Read In. Members of the student body along with members of the faculty and staff will read works by female African American authors. The event will be held at noon in the Sandridge Center

Ballroom. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and listen to readings from diverse genres.
On Wednesday, February 25 the Livingston Concert Lecture Series will play host to Hank Klibanoff at 7:00 p.m. in McCandless Hall. Klibanoff is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist serving as the James M. Cox Jr. Professor of Journalism at Emory University and also serves as director of the Institution’s Georgia Civil Rights Cold Case Project. He and Gene Roberts won the annual Pulitzer Prize for History in 2007 recognizing their book The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation. Klibanoff has served as the Managing Editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Deputy Managing Editor for The Philadelphia Inquirer, and a reporter The Boston Globe.
