ATHENS FEATUREDATHENS-The Athens Rec 8-9 Boys Soccer All-Star team competed in the ARPA (Alabama Recreation & Parks Association) State Tournament in Dothan on November 16-17.  They defeated Eufaula 6-0, Alexander City 5-0, and Dothan (Blue) 9-0 to win their pool.  Then, they had to play the winner of the other pool in the State Championship game and defeated Dothan (Silver) 5-4 to win the State soccerChampionship.

We have had individuals to win state in swimming, but we have never had an Athens team to win an ARPA State Championship.  The boys played great as a team and really represented the City of Athens well on and off the field.
Team members are:  Marlon Dindlebeck, Manuel Felipe, Emanuel Garnica, Adan Gonzalez, William Hobbs, Bryan Lagunas, Alex Martinez, Jesus Roman, Jonathan Soto, Asa Savioe, Franklin Ordonez Vicente, Milson Vicente, Christian Willingham, & Mason Riebeling.
I have attached a picture after the championship game.
It is also worth mentioning that the other 2 teams from Athens that participated in the State Tournament represented Athens with class and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award.  They were the 8-9 Girls (coached by Omar Castrejon) and the 10-11 Boys (coached by Pam Bloodworth).
