ATHENS-On March 25, 2025, at approximately 22:25mt, the Athens Police Department responded to the area of US Highway 72, west of Interstate 65 for a hit-and-run collision, vehicle v. pedestrian. The initial investigation suggests the pedestrian was walking westbound along US Highway 72 and the vehicle was traveling eastbound. The vehicle struck the pedestrian and continued eastbound on US Highway 72, leaving the scene. The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The identity and status of the pedestrian are unknown at this time.
The Athens Police believe the involved vehicle to be a 2020-2024 Kia Telluride, dark gray in color.
