ATHENS-The Athens Police Department is issued a BOLO for a possible lead on a vehicle that struck a pedestrian on December 14:

The Athens Police Department is continuing to seek leads on any tan/beige Honda CRV from model years 2012-2016 that has, or had, damage following a fatal hit and run of a pedestrian on the evening of December 14, 2023.  Our Investigators have followed up on a few tips locally without result.  The vehicle was last seen West bound on US 72; therefore, it is quite possible that it continued on to a residence in the Lauderdale County area.

On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 6:30 pm, Athens Police Department Officers responded to the intersection of US 72 and Hine Street.  It had been reported that a West bound vehicle struck a male crossing the road.  The man suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance.  He did not survive his injuries. The name of the victim in this accident was Erskin Dewayne Jacobs, 59, of Athens.

The vehicle fled the scene West bound on US 72.  It has been described as a tan/beige Honda CRV.  It will have damage to the front and driver side rear view mirror area.  If anyone spots this vehicle, please contact Detective Sergeant Kelly Fussell at 256.233.8718.
