ATHENS-Athens had two arrests yesterday, Tuesday, June 9. One for Burglary and the other For Unlawful Breaking and Entering.
Here is how Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson describes the arrests:
“Last night investigators arrested James Eddie Appleton Jr. on 4 counts of Burglary 3rd degree. Appleton was developed yesterday afternoon as a suspect in a series of burglaries after he sold a stolen Auburn class ring to Hobbs Jewelry. Investigator Brett Constable saw Appleton and two other males on US 72 West near Jefferson Street and stopped them. While Constable was talking with Appleton he took off running toward the railroad track. Officer Kelly Fussell chased Appleton but lost him behind D&J Motors on US 72. The tracking dogs from Limestone Correctional Facility were called and tracked for about an hour before losing the sent. Late last night investigators Jonathan Caldwell and Mickey Hart located Appleton at his residence on Henry Drive. After going over evidence located in Appleton’s vehicle and interviewing Appleton he was arrested. Appleton is accused of breaking into a residence on May 28, 2011 in the 300 block of North Beaty Street and taking a check book, jewelry, and various paper work. On June 1, 2015 he broke into a residence in the 200 block of Christine Street taking a lap top, jewelry, pistol, dolls and a camera. On June 8, 2015 he broke into a residence in the 900 block of East Forrest Street and took jewelry, 3 iPhone, an iPad, and a ball bag. On June 9, 2015 he broke into a residence in the 600 block of Maze Street taking an Auburn Class Ring. Appleton was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
“Yesterday afternoon the police department received a call from a customer at Lowes reporting a lady was going from vehicle to vehicle in the parking lot. The caller said when she would find a vehicle unlocked she would open it and go thru the glove box. The lady left the parking lot before officers could arrive. The witness followed her till officers could get her stopped at Murphy USA. In her vehicle officers recovered a Wal-Mart pre-paid Visa that was taken from a vehicle at Lowe’s. Officers also located a bottle containing 10 Subixone tablets on the driver. Officers arrested Sara Beth Barran for Unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.”
