ATHENS-Athens Police Department has established an “Exchange Zone” at its facility on Hobbs Street. The zone is in the
parking lot and includes two marked areas for people who need to exchange custody of children or exchange
property, such as a sale on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

Chief Anthony Pressnell said the area has two surveillance cameras for recording. He said the growing number
of e-commerce transactions prompted the department to establish the zone.

He thanked Public Works and its Street Dept. for assisting with setup of the zone area.

“This is a safer option for those who have custody exchanges of children and for those who have concerns
about buying or selling property online and meeting with a stranger to make the exchange,” he said.
