Athens Police Arrest Suspect In January 2016 Robbery

ATHENS-With the help of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office the Athens Police Department arrested a suspect in a robbery that took place on January 24, 2016.  Police Chief Floyd Johnson release a statement concerning the arrest and robbery:

“On January 24, 2016 shortly after  10:00 p.m. the police department received a call of a robbery at the Citgo station on US 72 East near I-65. When officers arrived they talked with the store manager. He told officers a male walked into the store and went to the beer cooler.  The male then walked to the counter with a 12 pack of Budweiser. The manager told the male he couldn’t sell him alcohol because it was Sunday.  The male then pulled a black handgun from his right side and told the manager to give him the money. After the male got the money he left walking over to Krystal’s and got into a black Suzuki XXL-7. The vehicle left a Krystal’s and went south on I-65.

 

After our department sent out information and photographs of the robbery Investigator Jonathan Caldwell received information from Cullman Police. They had developed a suspect in our robbery investigation. After investigating the information provided by Cullman Police Department Caldwell obtained a warrant on William Jackson Dooley for robbery 1st degree.  Yesterday afternoon Cullman County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dooley on our warrant. Dooley was brought back to our department where he was booked and then transferred to the Limestone County jail.
