ATHENS-The City of Athens is partnering with several groups to offer seniors a day of food, fun and fellowship.

The annual Senior Fun Fest will be May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Athens Activity Center at 912 W. Pryor Street.

“This is a wonderful day for our seniors because we’ll have vendors from the community that can share beneficial information with them, but we’ll also have plenty of activities to keep things lively,” Center Director Amy Golden said.

Athens Gas Department and the Foundation on Aging are providing lunch, and there will be bingo, door prizes and other games.

“The center is a much-needed resource for our seniors,” Mayor Ronnie Marks said. “Whenever I stop by I see seniors dancing, laughing, playing card games and encouraging each other. Senior Fun Fest just adds another resource for them.”

The Limestone County Extension Office is partnering with the City to host the event. Golden said the Foundation on Aging, Medicare Chick and Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission are also helping support the event.

“Our community has stepped up to support our efforts at the center and support these seniors,” she said. “I think we’re inspiring seniors to be livelier, and they serve as a support system for each other.”

The event is free.
