ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning a call received by the police on Wednesday, March 22 of shots being fired:
“Wednesday morning around 1:00 the police department received a call of shots fired on 3rd Street. When officers arrived they located a residence on 3rd Street with several bullets holes. This morning around 10:40 the police department received another call of shots being fired at the same residence on 3rd Street. One of the people in the residence this morning told officers he heard several shots and ran outside to try to catch the shooter. I do not know how many people were inside the residence. By the time he got outside no one was there. Investigators arrived on the scene and processed the scene. No one was injured in either shooting.
This afternoon investigators developed a suspect at East Acres Apartments in Decatur. Our investigators contacted Decatur Police Department and ask for assistance. Decatur officers responded and detained the suspect after a brief standoff. The suspect was armed with a pistol. We believe both of these incidents that occurred on 3rd Street were over the thefts of illegal drugs. This afternoon Investigator Jonathan Caldwell arrested Avery Isaiah Robertson two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He lives at 2012 Hunterwood Drive South East Decatur and is 19 years old. Robertson was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. The investigation in this case is continuing.”
