ATHENS-Athens Police arrest one man and charge him with Arson 1st. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest:
“On Sunday March 20, shortly around 13:40 the police department assisted the Athens Fire Department with an apartment fire at 210 Cloverleaf Drive Apartment 2. Officers were told by the fire department the fire was suspicious. They found a mattress in one of the bed rooms burning and the stove was on with items on it burning when they made entry to the apartment. They also told officers the apartment was locked however several windows had been broken out before the fire department’s arrival.
Officer Brandon McCuiston recognized the address from an earlier call that day about a domestic issue at the residence. Daryl Dela Cruz Guillermo told officers his girlfriend was refusing to let him get his property from the apartment. He told McCuiston he wanted to get his TV, couch and other items.
On Monday investigators interviewed Daryl Dela Cruz Guillermo and his girlfriend about the fire. After the interview investigator Jonathan Caldwell arrested Guillermo for arson 1st degree. Guillermo was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. There was no one in the apartment at the time of the fire however there are several apartment units in the building and other tenants were home. There were no injuries involved.”
