ATHENS – Beginning May 2, come on down to Athens Farmers Market, presented by Dream Key Real Estate, at 409 Green St. every Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. through August 29.
Market Manager Kat Greene says that the market will be back in full swing this year, and patrons now have an opportunity to shop the market after school or work.
“We are looking forward to providing fresh, local options for foods and artisan items at a more convenient time for many of our patrons,” said Greene. “Come down to the market on Tuesday after carpool or work and shop local.”
The Athens Farmers Market is an Alabama Certified Farmers Market. This means that all produce is locally and naturally grown in North Alabama or the Tennessee Valley. Prepared foods sold at the market are also locally made, as are the handcrafted goods offered by our local artisans.
Greene says the market is not only a great place to purchase local produce and goods, but it is a place to enjoy the day with family and friends.
This year, to celebrate our Tuesday Opening Day, T-Mobile will be sponsoring local musician, Drew Clemons, playing from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. In addition, On Thin Ice and Rocket City Popperz will be there with yummy treats for all ages and the Athens-Limestone County Public Library will be giving away children’s books.
FARMERS MARKET RENOVATION UPDATE
As announced earlier this year, the Athens Farmers Market is undergoing a major renovation. The construction team has been working tirelessly to get phase one complete before the market season. As of May 1, 2023, the pavilion has been totally refurbished offering more open spaces, paintied pavilion tables, a new roof, and festive string lights. The next phase will begin later this year.
“Our renovation project will transform the market site into a beautiful park and multi-use site for our community,” Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson said.
Richardson said the renovation will be done while remembering and celebrating the community’s roots in agriculture and farming.

SATURDAY MARKETS STARTS IN JUNE
The popular Saturday markets will begin June 3 and go through September 30 from 8 a.m. to Noon.
