Athens Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 15

ATHENS-The city of Athens has issued a statement concerning events for Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

There will be two events held in Athens to celebrate Martin Luther King day.The first event a Martin Luther King Jr Holiday Celebration at the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church at 11AM on Monday, January 15. The Guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Howard Middlebrooks the pastor of Sweet Home Baptist Church.  The event is sponsored by The Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee.  There will be take home plate lunches after the program.

The second event will be a King Unity March beginning at (AM with the line-up at the West Side of Limestone City Courthouse at 8:45AM.  The courthouse is located at 200 West Washington Street. Following the Unity March there will be a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Program as well as the 19th Annual Essay and Art contest at 9:30AM at the Veterans Museum located at 114 Pryor St W in Athens.  The program includes student essays and art presentations, music, and awards presentation.
