Arthur Lee Spackman, age 77, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Alive Hospice in Nashville TN after a brief illness.
Art was born May 12, 1947 in scenic Butte, Montana to Arthur M. and Margit Spackman.
Art spent his childhood and early years all over southern and central California. He spent his high school years in San Jose, where he attended Pioneer High School and San Jose State University. After marrying the beautiful Alison, the love of his life, they spent the next 45 years in the Auburn and Placer County area. Art and Alison moved to Springfield, TN in 2021 to be closer to their jump-rope champion son, Greg and exceptional wife, Jill.
He was avidly involved in the Auburn community and spent many years coaching basketball, volleyball, and softball for the Bowman Charter School where he touched the lives of hundreds of athletes, students and friends. He coached from 1987-1997. One of the best gifts he received during his tenure was coaching his gorgeous daughter, Randi and seeing her excel.
He retired after 35 years with the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific railroad where he achieved the position of Yardmaster. In addition to working for the railroad, he was an accomplished general contractor and Real Estate Broker that left his mark all over Auburn with building fences, decks, and barns for friends and even built the house he and Alison raised their phenomenal family in off Porter Ln.
Art was a natural athlete that enjoyed the competition of sports, but his ultimate passion was golf. Before he passed, he got the greatest gift of playing weekly (and winning) with his son, Greg. Although not a chef, he made a mean cioppino.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alison; son Greg (Jill); daughter Randi Kushan; brother Chris (Denisa); sister Kristy Rauzy (Greg); grandsons Riley and Wyatt; Jeremy Kushan; Lonny Momeyer; and anyone reading this.
No funeral is planned, but a Celebration of Life will be held in Auburn, CA in May 2025. Details forthcoming, but you can bet it will have something to do with golf!
Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
