Mr. Arthur Ernst Guttensohn Jr., age 88 of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his home. A native of Chicago, he has resided in Huntsville for the past 47 years.

Preceded in death by his dearly loved wife, Lila Joan Guttensohn, he is survived by his three sons, Eric (Amy) Guttensohn, Kurt (Alex) Guttensohn, and Mark (Patty) Guttensohn; his daughter, Laurel (Matt) Glidden; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren plus one on the way.

After graduating from New Trier Township High School, Winnetka, Illinois, in 1954, Art earned his BSEE degree in 1959, and his MSEE degree in 1961, both from Northwestern University. In 1977, he, along with his young family, was transferred to Huntsville with GTE Automatic Electric where he served as Special Project Engineer, Hybrid Manufacturing.

As a young man, Art was passionate about many things.  He nurtured his love of teaching by working as an evening Instructor in Mathematics, Science, Graphics and Electronics at Triton College, River Grove, Illinois; Harper College, Palatine, Illinois; and Calhoun College, Decatur, Alabama. He was also involved with teaching CCD and volunteer tutoring.  He served the community as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Hoffman Estates Fire Department.  He also held many offices in professional organizations, the Knights of Columbus, and the church parish council.  He has also had numerous papers and poems published throughout his life. Providing for his family, being a loving and attentive father, and having a good laugh whenever possible were always the most important things to him, and we rejoice knowing he has been reunited with his dear Lila in Heaven!

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. Visitation will be on Friday, December 13th from 10:00am – 11:00am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with Father Tim Pfander officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
