Arrest Made In July 4 Road Rage Shooting Of Colbert County 911 Dispatcher

FLORENCE– On Friday, September the 14 Florence Police released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect in the Ju;y 4th shooting of Colbert County 911 Dispatcher  Cassie Sartain:

 “September 14, 2018 at approximately 1751 hours Florence Police arrested Desmond Andre Edwards a black male born 5/6/1997 for Assault in the First Degree and Firing into an Occupied Vehicle.  This arrest is as a result of the Road Rage incident initially reported July 4th in which Colbert County 911 dispatcher Cassie Sartain was shot and seriously injured. 

Florence Police would like to congratulate Detective Bill White for months of hard work that led to tonight’s arrest.

PRESS RELEASE DATED July 5, 2018

On July 4, 2018 at approximately 1:20am Florence Police Department received a call of a female that had been shot and was being transported to ECM by privately owned vehicle. Once at ECM officers spoke to the boyfriend of the victim. He stated that he was driving down Chisholm Rd when someone in a dark-colored Chevrolet Cruze confronting them at the traffic light at Cox Creek Parkway.  They continued on Chisholm Rd, the Chevrolet continued driving aggressive following them to Malone Cir where someone in the Cruze exited the vehicle and shot several times at the vehicle the victim was riding in.

One of the shots entered the vehicle hitting victim in the neck. The vehicle was hit multiple times during the shooting.

The victim is Cassie Sartain, a dispatcher for Colbert County 911 center. She was transported to Huntsville Hospital and was in stable condition as of this morning.

This is an ongoing investigation and we are continuing search for the offenders.
