The incomparable Arba McPeake Milam Taylor, 92, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024. Arba was one of five children born in Lexington, Tennessee on September 22, 1932, to the late Chester Arthur and Audia Hayes McPeake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband (Judge Andrew βTipβ Taylor), sisters (Elizabeth McPeake Coffman and Louise McPeake Walker), brothers (Orbin Bell McPeake and Charles Arthur McPeake), and her beloved son, Stephen McPeake Milam. Survivors include her three grandchildren: Stephen Milam (Jacy), Jennifer Lankford (Brent), and Bill Milam (Roberta), and six great-grandchildren (Story, Shep, Catherine, Clark, Walt, and Max) whom all lovingly referred to her as Mommy Arba.
A graduate of Lexington High School in 1950, Arba made a lasting impression on the community. She was employed for over thirty-five years with the Lexington First Federal Savings and Loan where she was also a member of the Board of Directors. Upon her retirement in March 1997, she continued her work with the Board, culminating in her appointment as Chairman.
Arba was known for her incredible work ethic. A single mother, Arba worked tirelessly to provide her son, Steve, with the best of everything. She was an equally devoted grandmother and friend β fiercely loyal, an exceptional conversationalist, and curator of the best gifts and gatherings. A true steel magnolia, Arba will be remembered for her stoicism and grace, her unconditional love for her son and grandchildren, and her truly extraordinary skills in the kitchen.
