FLORENCE-On Friday, April 10 Captain Brad Holmes, Criminal Investigations with the Florence Police Department issued a statement regarding a shooting that took place in the early morning hours of April 10 on West Mobile Street in Florence:

“At approximately 0230 am this morning, Florence Police responded to a “Shots Fired” call in the area of West Mobile Street in Florence. Responding officers searched the area and located a black male in the 200 block of Perry Street who had suffered a gunshot wound to his head. The male, who is in his 20s, was provided medical care until EMS units arrived and transported the male to an AirEvac helicopter that was waiting nearby. The male was subsequently flown to Huntsville Hospital to receive treatment. While attending to the male, a second subject was located with a gun shot wound to his hand. This male, also in his 20s, was treated at NAMC.

Investigators were called to the scene and have worked throughout the day processing the scene and speaking to potential witnesses in this case. It is believed that both victims were shot by a third party who has yet to be identified.
A motive has not yet been determined in this case, however, the location of the crime is familiar to our agency. Officers with the Florence Police Department have responded to numerous complaints in the 200 block of Perry Street in the past and it is believed that gathering was happening at the location prior to the shooting.
Our agency is asking for the public’s help in this case. We believe that the community has relevant information and we ask that anyone with information about this case contact the Florence Police Department at 256-768-2727.
At last check, the male whom was flown to Huntsville was in critical condition. We are not releasing the names of the victims at this time as this case is still very active.
More information will be released when available.”
