Anthony “Hamp” Nugent, age 54, of Leoma, TN passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at his residence. He was a native of Lauderdale County, AL, retired Captain from the Lawrenceburg Police Department, bus driver for First Class Charter, and a member of Shores Baptist Church.
Anthony’s career started in 1985 as a reserve deputy at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. He was then hired as a full time deputy sheriff and later promoted to sergeant and then on to investigator. He became a narcotics investigator in 1990 for the Lawrenceburg Police Department. After serving for 24 years as a drug investigator, he became a member of the 22nd Judicial District Drug Task Force where he retired as Captain from the Criminal Investigation Division.
Mr. Nugent was also a member of many organizations including Fraternal Order of Police Natchez Trace Lodge #33, National Rifle Association, and Blue Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Earl Nugent; and his loving in-laws, Don and Peggy Jones.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 14, 2015, with Bill Adams and Steve Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow at Harvey Cemetery in Lauderdale County, AL. Family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Avalon Hospice.
