DECATUR-Soccer players, fans and their families will make their way to the River City this weekend to participate in one of the premiere Division II and Division III tournaments in the Southeast. The annual Battle at the Jack is set for September 19-20, 2020, at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex. The two-day tournament is expected to attract up to 50 teams from across the Southeast, bringing together some of the region’s best youth soccer players to Decatur.
Hosted by the River City United Soccer Club, Battle at the Jack is an Alabama Soccer Association and United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) sanctioned tournament. The three-day tournament offers USYSA affiliated Challenge, Classic, and Academy level U9-U19 girls’ and boys’ competitive soccer opportunities. Medals will be awarded to the championship and runner-up teams in each age division.
The annual tournament is traditionally held in March but was postponed due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tournament organizers have provided each participating team with COVID-19 protocols and these include maintaining appropriate social distancing and keeping a distance of six feet from anyone not in your immediate family, mandatory masks when not participating in soccer activity and prescreening all team members and attending family members. Spectators are allowed during competition and must sit in the designated spectator area.
